Word of Wisdom is a revelation manifestation of the Gift of Holy Spirit. Word of Wisdom is you receiving instruction from God on what to do with the information which was received through another manifestation of Holy Spirit known as Word of Knowledge.
Word of Wisdom can also be what to do in a given situation where you already have knowledge of it through your 5 senses. Word of Wisdom is known as a “revelation” manifestation because it is God “revealing” something to you.
Word of Wisdom is not about how smart you are, although that is usually a by product, it is about you getting specific information from God that you can not possibly know from your 5 senses. It is divine information that does not come from your brain; it comes from the Gift of Holy Spirit.
Word of Wisdom, the Holy Spirit Gift Manifestation is first mentioned in I Cor 12:8 – “For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;”
Word of Wisdom is God telling us the right things to do with the Word of Knowledge that He just gave us about something... or maybe something we know about through our five senses but don’t know what to do about it. Like I said, these manifestations can and do work independently but usually they are done together... as the believer is ready for them.
Ready Receiver: Tune into the Holy Spirit
That’s the catch to any and all of God’s power in your life; YOU have to be ready to receive it. You can not hear God when you are in turmoil and conflict in your head or in your heart. Most people are so busy listening to their favorite radio station inside their head, WIIFM (What’s In It For Me?) that they never bother to switch the dial over GODFM and see if there is something better on.
If you are not tuned in and ready to listen to God, then God can not give you His message. In most cases, He will not force His message on you because doing so would infringe upon your free will to listen to Him.
Not listening to God hurts his heart and slows Him down in doing good works for all of us. That is a tragedy for everyone. It is up to each of us individually to be good stewards of that which God has given us. We are to be witnesses of His greatness and glory through out the entire world. How can we possibly do that for God if we are not listening to God’s good counsel AND operating the Gift of Holy Spirit in its fullness?
How Word of Wisdom Works
When God gives you Word of Knowledge He will usually immediately follow with what to do with that special knowledge; i.e. Word of Wisdom. But not always. Sometimes God just wants you to know something and not do anything about it. Sometimes He gives you special knowledge without word of wisdom because you already know what to do; the additional information would be redundant. God is all about concise communication.
Sometimes we need a kick in the butt to do it, but that’s a different story. And yes, sometimes God will even provide that butt kicking for you! You know, like Jonah being swallowed by the big fish when God told him to go to Nineveh and Jonah said no…
But you know what? If God has to kick your butt every time he wants you to do something, He will not make a habit out of it. He will simply stop giving you assignments. I don’t know about you, but I love working for God and doing His good works. So I make sure that he keeps my butt kickings to a bare minimum!
